I don = t think anything is more vivid in my mind as that horrible day.
The day itself was drab. The waiting room lights were out. A patient whose son = s name was Bradley came into our Pediatric office and as she entered the door saw me standing at the counter putting syringes away and said as she held onto the door, A I just heard that President Kennedy has been shot @ .
We listened to the news hoping it wasn = t true until the worst news came and we all just cried.
Our wonderful President Kennedy was dead.
I had see then Senator Kennedy in downtown Toledo Ohio during my freshman year in college. My mother worked at the Family Court Center. I went to pick her up after school and she told me Senator Kennedy was downtown and was going to go by the Court. I ran outside and I swear, his motorcade passed by me and he was as close to me as 2 car lengths. There he sat in the convertible, on top of the back part of the seat. He was gorgeous. Tan. He had a wonderful smile. I can still see him sitting there after all these years.
Too bad, my classmate said the next day when I bubbled over I had seen him and thought he was going to be elected. She repeated it was too bad, then told me he was going to die in office. I was shocked to hear that but never gave it a thought until that awful moment.
Each day was torture for everyone. The World was heavy with sadness. There was nothing on TV but mourning music, people talking about what had happened and music I don = t remember the name of, but whenever I hear it all the pain of that moment in time floods back to me and I = m sad again. They even showed President Kennedy = s chair being carried out of the White House.
The funeral that dark rainy day was televised. There stood little Caroline next to her swollen face mother, our First Lady, Jackie . Standing in front of his mother was little A John John @ saluting. I bet it was and will remain, the picture of the Century that little 3 year old who was too young to remember his father and who has now joined him in an equally horrible way.
And then, the horse with the backward boots backwards.
It was an awful time, President Kennedy = s Assassination.
