The Little Boy in the Restaurant

We watched them build the restaurant and were eager to go there. An invitation from the restaurant owners about a pregrand opening party came and invited everyone in the neighborhood to attend.

A lot of people attended and we were seated in one of the two large circular booths right next to a very large family celebrating their little boys birthday. On top of the divided booths sat several planters with floppy leaves.

I was seated on the opposite side of our booth and as I was eating noticed the leaves were moving. I didn't pay much attention at first, until I thought I saw 2 little eyes. I pretended I didn't see him, but it was the little birthday boy playing with the planters.

Suddenly he saw me and when I smiled at him, he quickly disappeared.

A moment later though, he pushed one of the planters aside and his cute little face appeared again. This time he appeared to be taller and apparently was trying to see who was on my side of the booth below him. When he happened to look up I waved at him and he slowly slid down and disappeared again.

I heard a woman's voice say to sit down and all was quiet, until. From the side of the booth appeared a little head. The little boy evidently was now lying down on the seat and moved slightly off the seat to look at me. I waved and yes, his head little by little moved back into the seat.

We were waiting for dessert when the waiters came with the birthday cake, and everyone sang happy birthday. You could see the planter leaves moving because the little boy was jumping up and down in the booth and then he must have fallen because we heard him cry.

It got quiet again until I heard a little voice say hi and there was the cute little face of the little boy, now comfortable seeing me. I said hello and wished him happy birthday and he slid down into his booth again.,

We got up and left the restaurant but later I heard from a neighbor who had been sitting near our booths that new customers were seated shortly after we left. The little birthday boy who had been flirting with me came running over to the booth then stopped short shocked because instead of me, there sat an elderly couple. I heard he froze in his tracks, and backed slowly away.

One day, just a few days later, I wound up seeing him with his mother in the supermarket and spoke to him. She said he talked about a lady at the restaurant all the time, but right now, Christopher was hiding behind her, and yes his little head slowly moved past his mother and his cute little face and adorable bright little eyes looked at me, and he gave me a big smile.
